Q: Do you do it at your own house?
A: Yes, and I don't exactly like showing off my address on the internet but I kind of have to if I want people to see my work in person. So, the address is available only when the show is active.
Q: Do you take song requests?
A: Yes, if you have one email jonah@jonahlights.com. Nobody has done that yet, so all of the songs are picked by me. The show is a reflection of my musical taste.
Q: Why don't you do more songs?
A: It takes hours to make each sequence just right and work with my display. So, another song could be another 5+ hours of work listing to the same song. I am targeting around a 20-minute show because most people won't stay for much longer than that and it is a reasonable amount of work for me. Remember I am doing both Halloween and Christmas each year.
Q: How much is this all worth?
A: I estimate that it costs around three to five thousand dollars for everything.
Q: How much is your power bill?
A: The lights and controllers are much more expensive, but the bill does go up by around 40 to 50 dollars for Christmas. Not too much in the grand scheme of things.
Q: How many cars go by?
A: Not enough in my opinion, please come see it if you are able.
Q: Where and how did you learn how to do this?
A: I saw a video of a show like this online when I was seven and said I could do that. So, in 6th grade I started planning a light show then the next year in 7th grade I pulled it off. It has grown every year so far. I am self taught, there are plenty of tutorials and support groups online if you want to learn how to do this.
Q: How does Pulse Mesh work?
A: Simple Answer: You download the PulseMesh app then hear the music through your phone. Technical Answer: You receive the audio file through the PulseMesh app real time and then get time code data from the light show computer to sync it with no audible latency. This is how the app works behind the scenes. I have a free plan, so this only works within half a mile of the house. learn more at pulsemesh.io
